As part of a request from an ABA member, our research team has gathered several examples of employee handbooks and policy manuals from a variety of arts organizations across genres. In addition to outlines of benefits and protocols, we saw many additions of COVID vaccine policies.

Austin Opera (Austin, TX)
Along with its protocols addressing workplace violence prevention and vaccination policies, Austin Opera’s employee manual designates and identifies an Employee Safety Representative. This individual is responsible for ensuring adherence to safety protocols during drills and emergencies (though without liabilities).
Charlotte Ballet (Charlotte, NC)
Charlotte Ballet’s employee handbook opens with a vibrant, visual history of the company, painting a full picture of the organization and academy before moving into the policies and procedures for staff and academy faculty.
ROCO (Houston, TX)
The Houston-based classical music ensemble outlines its family-friendly workplace guidelines in its employee handbook. Currently in the works: updates to work from home policies given lessons learned during the pandemic.
The Wellin Museum of Art (Clinton, NY)
Located on campus at Hamilton College, the Wellin Museum employees many student workers. Their student employee manual includes helpful resources, such as a front desk greeting script.
