Benchmark Analysis: Flexible Work Policies
May 24, 2022
Arts organizations are increasingly offering flexible work policies to staff, but some jobs are only able to be done in the office. Our latest Arts Executive Poll asked arts leaders to benchmark themselves on how they are implementing digital strategies moving forward and their priorities for digital programming, monetization targets, resources, equity of flex policies, and new technologies. Highlights from the survey include:
Generally, half of all arts organizations surveyed offer all their departments equal ability to work from home (except facilities and security). The majority allow staff to WFH 2-3 days per week.
In addition to WFH policies, arts organizations also tend to implement other flextime opportunities and overall staff is reported to be satisfied with such policies.
There is a slight concern about the fairness of flexible work arrangements across staff, particularly regarding production staff. To address this imbalance, arts organizations have introduced a number of additional policies and tactics to help production staff not feel as negatively impacted by the rise of remote work elsewhere.
