Advocacy and Government Support

The Advisory Board for the Arts surveyed leaders at arts organizations about their efforts to secure government funding and support during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Findings include:

• Nearly all arts organizations applied for—and fortunately received—government relief funds during the pandemic. Support from national governments was most common

• Arts organizations used a variety of messages in their appeals, but most commonly relied on the economic angle, focusing on the jobs and revenue they bring to their communities.

• Three-quarters of arts organizations partnered with at least one other organization in their advocacy efforts, most commonly other arts organizations in their city and ASOs
