DEI&A Progress Summary
Arts organizations have long been struggling and seeking progress on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEI&A). Increased attention on systematic racism and police violence against people of color in 2020 led many arts organizations to step up their efforts to make progress.
The Advisory Board for the Arts has conducted multiple surveys of arts executives on their DEI&A priorities, accomplishments, and challenges since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have produced a new report that compiles the most relevant data in an effort to help arts leaders understand how their peers are confronting this critical topic. This report examines progress made in 2020, goals for 2021 (including an enhanced focus on inclusion), and the ongoing challenge of setting goals and measuring progress. We've also included many helpful resources from inside and outside the arts to help leaders bolster their efforts.
