Nearly all arts organizations are working to improve the diversity of their employees, audiences, artists, and art. Fostering a true culture of inclusion is an important part of that work. Our recent Arts Executive poll surveyed leaders on their efforts to advance inclusion at their organizations. Highlights from the survey include:
Most leaders say improving inclusion is a high priority at their arts organization
Fewer than 1-in-5 arts leaders feel strongly their organization is currently "inclusive" - indicating a big opportunity for growth
Across multiple dimensions of inclusion, an open culture where people can share their backgrounds freely scored highest; inclusionary hiring practices that value diverse qualifications scored lowest.
