Community Engagement

Our latest ABA Executive Benchmark explored community engagement at arts and cultural organizations.

Highlights from the survey include:

  • Community engagement is one of the main pillars of strategic plans for a majority of responding organizations, and the budget for that work has increased.

  • Youth (ages 5-12) are the top priority for half of participating organizations’ resource allocation within community engagement programming.

  • While half of organizations use volunteers for general support of their community programs, most organizations do not feel that they depend heavily on volunteer support.

  • Foundation grants and individual gifts are the most important sources of funding for community initiatives at responding organizations.
