Opera Education Program Impact Measurement
May 2022
With schools reopened and priorities adjusted as we emerge from the pandemic, many of our member institutions are increasing or adjusting their education and community engagement approach. In April, we ran a short email survey for an opera member to understand how institutions measure impact, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Eight opera institutions in the US participated.
Some of the findings include:
Most institutions measure impact with qualitative feedback forms and activity metrics (e.g., individuals reached); rubrics and holistic assessments are emerging but still nascent
Measuring short-term impact is much more common than long-term outcomes
Funding for programs, aside from those offered for a fee, is a mix of individual, corporate and foundation; some mentioned individual donors who fund primarily education
