Most boards in our benchmark have 30 or fewer trustees, who can serve for four or more consecutive terms. For 80% of respondents, trustee terms last around 3-4 years.
Surveying board members and trustees is common practice for 63% of surveyed organizations. Around 80% of boards collect information on demographics, expertise, skills, and industry, while only 10% collect information on income levels.
Most organizations do require a minimum annual giving amount from their board members. These giving requirements typically range under $15,000. Of these organizations with a giving requirement, 75% have maintained their giving requirements, while 25% have increased them.
Most respondents survey their board members to track their demographics as well as their expertise, skills and associated industries.
